Way of the Sword introduces legendary samurai Miyamoto Musashi as its new protagonist, modeled after the iconic actor Toshiro Mifune. Securing the rights to use Mifuneโs likeness took nearly two yearsโan effort that highlights the team’s deep respect for the cultural and visual legacy of the series.
Director Satoru Nihei confirmed that, rather than following the trend of expansive open worlds, the game will embrace a linear structure. This choice is meant to preserve the intense pacing and immersive atmosphere that fans have long associated with Onimusha.
